In 2014, I collaborated with web developers at Italian newspaper La Stampa to design a web documentary series called “Italia Selvaggia” (“The Wilds of Italy”) for the publication’s MediaLab. The series followed a writer to five locations on the peninsula that still retained their wild, natural beauty.
Each week I received the writer’s copy, as well as photos and raw video taken by the accompanying photographer. I edited and fashioned these into a highly visual design featuring a liquid layout, background video loops, and parallax scrolling. The idea was to plunge readers into an immersive visual experience, allowing them to imagine themselves in these remote locations.
I created a separate, less graphically intensive version of the series optimized for mobile. It was the first time that the newspaper presented separate desktop and mobile designs of a story.
