Short Documentary
Standardizing Inequality
This short doc follows Bronx mother Tanya Duprey and daughter Allison as they navigate the maze of kindergarten admissions in NYC.
When NYC instituted standardized testing for admission to its gifted & talented kindergarten program, enrollment skewed towards White and Asian-American children, and kids in affluent Manhattan. Offers of admission to Black and Hispanic children, and children in low-income neighborhoods, dropped dramatically.
