I designed several multimedia stories during my time at Italian newspaper La Stampa. Among them was “Fuoriclasse” (“Outclassed”), a piece by colleague Manuela Messina on chronic student absenteeism and high dropout rates in Italian schools. The problem is especially grave in Southern Italy, where it is exacerbated by poverty, unemployment, and crime.
The story followed an interview format interspersed with various multimedia elements (tables and charts, video, and photos). Due to time constraints, a simpler layout was used in the published piece.
